About This City
Brandon, FL was named after the arrival of John Brandon at Fort Brooke (present day Tampa) on January 20, 1857. Mr. Brandon, his wife Martha, and their six sons first moved to what is now known as the Seffner area. In August 1858, Mr. Brandon purchased 40 acres of land in present day downtown Brandon near SR 60. He then purchased an additional 160 acres and called the area Brandon. Today, thanks to further development and urban sprawl, modern day Brandon expands well beyond the 200 acres initially purchased by Mr. Brandon.
